    Hunting [Open]

She had been alone for some time now. Ever since she had fled her former pride, Mint had wandered Drift by herself and slowly learned how to survive. Still she could barely handle the silence that seemed to follow her everywhere. Though she knew that she could not return to the males that she had fled from, she wished she could be a part of something once more. A pride, a group, anything really. The loneliness was crippling, and for several days she had found herself lying around and feeling sorry for herself. She was, after all, meant to be a social creature. Eventually she managed to pull herself out of the funk she had fallen into, and she found her mint green paws carrying her towards the fresh waters of Ilou'av in search of sound and perhaps nourishment. She was not sure if her kind were naturals when it came to fishing, but she figured she had little to lose in trying her paw at it. So, instead of wasting time sitting around alone any longer, she trotted towards the waters and allowed herself to slow as she neared them.

It took her only a matter of moments before she spotted a large frog, and for several minutes she simply crouched down and stared at it. Would it taste as bad as it looked? Her head tilted slightly as it croaked, the odd sound making her fur stand on end briefly before she crawled closer and perked her ears in the slimy creature's direction. But no sooner had she stepped forward than the frog leaped into the water, leaving her alone on the bank of the lake with a disappointed frown on her face. Several minutes passed before she finally stepped forward and into the water, lowering her front half and keeping her back half on the shore so that she could lap up the cool liquid for some much needed refreshment. She took her time, and when she was finished she pushed herself back up into a full standing position and stepped further into the cool liquid. Though she knew winter was coming to the majority of Drift, the cool water still felt good on her paws and legs as she came to a stop with all four paws submerged. That was when she froze, letting her eyes wander and search for any sign of life, knowing that it would take time since her movements had likely scared away any fish that had been nearby initially.

It felt like hours passed as she stood still, her eyes searching the water while her tail remained lifted from the surface with the tip twitching absently. It was perhaps the only part of her that moved, and finally after what seemed like forever, she swiped a paw up and in front of her form and threw a silvery fish out onto the shore nearby. Thankfully she had thrown it far enough that it would not flop back into the water, and eventually it was joined with two others that were slightly smaller and just as lively. When she was satisfied that they would do for a meal she exited the lake, pouncing on the less than enthusiastic fish and ending their lives before she began to devour her small feast. It felt wonderful to eat, and perhaps she enjoyed the slimy creatures more than she had expected to. Either way she took her time with the second two after making the first disappear in a matter of minutes. Her belly slowly grew more and more full, leaving her less impatient and in an entirely better mood than she initially had been in.

    Re: Hunting [Open]

The life of a loner had been appealing to the young male for a while, particularly now that he did not have to watch out for his younger sisters... not that he had minded, truly... it was just not what he had hoped for himself as a young male, and now that he had traveled alone for some time, the loneliness was starting to weigh on him. Izel was not meant to be a lone soul, but when it meant his mother and sisters would be safe he didn't even think twice about living his life as a loner for a while and he was ready for that to be over with. Today, he found himself lazing around on the edge of a lake, the winter sun warming him just enough to keep the cool waters comfortable as he lay with his lower half resting in the water. His ears flicked from time to time as a dragonfly or other flying creature tried to find a perch upon them, but soon another sound caught his attention and the brute lazily blinked his eyes open and sat up to look around.

It did not take long for the male's orange eyes to find the form of the mint green diardi that pawed a few fish onto the shore just around one of the many bends of its shoreline... she was smaller than he was, something that was not hard to achieve, but it was peculiar to him that a female of their kind would be out and about alone. As soon as the thought struck him, Izel nearly leapt to his paws, no... a female wouldn't be out and about on their own this time of year, right? He looked around, orange orbs scanning the area as the female he had spotted started eating the silver creatures she had scooped onto land for her female, quite likely the exact kind of fish he had caught himself earlier that day, his ears swiveled around, but he could neither hear nor see anyone else around them. He snorted, feeling foolish for acting so quickly, surely she would have noticed him by now with all the splashing he had made in trying to stand up in a hurry.

Thinking of the other feline brought his gaze back toward her, wondering if she would be paying him any attention at all and the idea that she may not be made the tip of his tail twitch in irritation. How could someone not pay attention to him, especially if they were alone? He started to walk around the lake, following the shoreline as he headed toward her, making no attempt to make his approach silent... no, he wanted her to know he was there and that he was interested in meeting her, perhaps even getting to know her and spend some time with her. She wasn't bad looking after all so that alone was a plus. If conversation with her proved interesting enough he might even want to stick around with her awhile, at the very least to keep her safe... he did not know of many foolish creatures that would try to take on someone his size without a decent enough advantage and if she really was alone he wouldn't feel right about leaving her to her own devices.

The purple and ebony colored brute came to a stop a few feet away from the smaller, green diardi and made sure she was looking at him before he spoke, "Hello, I am Izel." he said, introducing himself simply with a small dip of his head. He wouldn't press the fact that she was out here alone as he was certain that that would look rather ill on his part, but he hoped that she would not be disturbed by his presence... he was simply lonely and if she did not mind some company, even if only for a little while, he would be glad to spend some of his time with her.

    Re: Hunting [Open]

At first she was not certain she had heard correctly. The mint green female paused in her meal, ears twitching back and forth slowly before she finally lifted her head to look around. She was sure she had heard some splashing, but the water nearby seemed pristine and untouched. She frowned, allowing her eyes to follow the shoreline away from her until she finally spotted the source of the steps. It was another Diardi, but a male. Her body tensed, as she had known males in the past to be aggressive and rather dominant when it came to females. This one did not look familiar, but as she knew nothing about him, she was cautious and perhaps a bit frightened. It was not like she typically did well in social situations anyways. He was moving towards her, and gave her no indication that he would stop anytime soon. She remained still until he was only a few yards away, desperate to keep her meal as she was uncertain when she would manage to get herself another. However, the closer he got, the weaker her constitution became and eventually she ended up taking a couple steps backwards and forfeiting the remains of the fish to the stranger.

Her ears flattened and her tail tucked slightly and the tip curled around her back right leg as she watched him. He introduced himself, and for all intents and purposes he seemed kind enough. But she knew that she could not just trust anyone. She was inexperienced and naive, but she was not stupid. "Uhm, I'm Mint." She said softly, her voice more shaky than she had meant it to be. She swallowed nervously, uncertain as to whether or not the scent of her heat was still in the air around her. As she had not become pregnant - since she had been traveling alone for quite some time - she was almost certain that he could fill her with cubs if he wished. But she was in no state to raise cubs. She was young, had no experience, and she was alone. She could barely protect herself, let alone protect and teach cubs what they needed to know to survive. Her heartbeat sped up as her mind raced, and though she did not move, her muscles were tense and ready to run at any moment.

She doubted she stood much of a chance at escape, though. He was larger than her, so maybe that would slow him down, but he was close enough that she was certain he could catch her if his reaction was fast enough. She swallowed nervously, her ears still flat and her head lowered as she swallowed a nervous growl that wanted to jump into her throat. No, threatening him would get her nowhere. It would likely get her killed. She would need to play nice, and hopefully if she was lucky he would not be interested in keeping her. Who was she kidding, though? Every lone male diardi dreamed of starting his own pride. Why should this one be any different? The best she could hope for was that he was strong and could protect her and any cubs she gave him. If she was lucky he would be kind as well. So far he seemed alright, but she knew from experience that a male could turn a corner quickly and she would be on the receiving end of powerful muscles and dangerous teeth and claws if she pissed him off.

    Re: Hunting [Open]

The large brute could tell almost right away that the small, green female of his kind was a nervous thing… perhaps she had not had good experiences in her past with other males? He had run into quite a few that seemed constantly on edge, angry at the world for one thing or another, and he only imagined that such ill-tempered beasts were low enough scumbags to take their anger out on females… particularly the smaller and likely weaker ones like this one presented herself to be. On the flip side, he had also had a run in with not one, but two females on his lone travels that were just as sly and cunning as the devious males he despised… had he been a lesser brute those two females would have been beaten and bruised, but he had let them leave him thinking themselves victors. No, this one did not strike him like that, particularly when she flattened her ears and backed away from not only himself but also what was left of her meal.

As soon as Izel realized she thought he might be here for her food he took a few steps back, hopefully conveying that he had no interest in stealing her food. He would be lying if he said he had not noticed the scent that came from her as he had gotten rather close… but he had found many ways along his travels to take care of his urges, and though it would be hard to hide the fact that her heat affected him as it would any other male, as would be evident if she were to catch sight of his sheath, he thought himself to have enough self control to let her be peacefully… at least, until she trusted him enough to let instinct take over, at that point he would no longer feel bad for taking her… after all, if they were not meant to satiate their carnal desires they would not have been made in such a way to get pleasure from those actions, right?

“Pleasure to meet you, Mint. I’m sorry to interrupt your meal, please… I ate earlier today and I would not dare take your hard earned food.” he said softly to her, baritone notes rumbling warmly from his chest as he spoke, “I did wonder why you’re alone… I’ll keep others away if someone tries to take your meal,” he paused for a moment, “After all, those things are hard to catch, I’m impressed you got so many. Anyone that comes along can have a god themselves at catching them.” he purred, hoping to put her at ease. Every once in a while, the brute would certainly take advantage of a situation like this… a lone female with an undeniable itch… Izel would always oblige such urges, but with Mint… he felt a bit of pity, perhaps a sort of protectiveness, after seeing her reaction to him… or perhaps he simply wasn’t used to that from females since that was all he had truly known for quite some time? No matter… he hoped that in the end of this encounter she would at least have a warm belly and appreciate the company… after all, the longer he stayed with her the less likely another male with much more ill intention than him would approach.

    Re: Hunting [Open]

She watched him with nervous eyes as he backed away from her food, and when he told her to continue her meal, she let herself relax slightly. She was surprised, really, but she found her opinions of him changing quickly as she leaned forward and moved back to the carcasses in front of her. She made quick work of them, and before long they were gone and she was laying down in front of him much more relaxed than before. She had to admit, she liked the feeling of being watched over while she ate her meal. Knowing that the male had no intentions of taking her food and taking note of the distance he was careful to keep between them, she could only assume that he was protecting her while she relaxed and ate. After all, if he left, it was just as likely for another less friendly and accommodating male to come along and take advantage of her. If he had wanted to use her and then dump her somewhere - or worse - he likely would have done so already. When she had allowed herself to almost completely relax now that she had a full belly, she thought back on his earlier words. "I fled my former pride and I have been alone and running ever since." She said softly, her ears still flattened to the sides but in sadness this time. She was tired of running, tired of hiding, tired of being afraid of everything.

That was when her eyes traveled back up to the male before her, ears finally perking as she slowly raised herself up onto her mint green paws. "You won't hurt me, right?" She asked, frowning as the words tumbled out of her mouth. It was a blunt question, and she studied his face to make sure that when he answered she would be able to tell if it was the truth or not. But she had to know. The overwhelming urge to move forward and close the distance between them was almost killing her, but she held back and kept her instincts at bay for the time being. It was in her nature as a Diardi female to long to be with others of her kind, for they were most definitely not solitary creatures. Finally, after much internal debate and carefully studying his expression to make sure he meant her no harm, she did move forward and close the distance between them. She let a soft purr rumble in her chest as she paused hesitantly in front of him, her head and tail easily much lower than his own. Then, after a few moments of carefully watching him and debating with herself, she leaned forward and rubbed her forehead gently against his chest and neck. It was an affectionate and friendly gesture, and hopefully a beginning of a bond that would benefit them both in the long run. After all, she knew it was only a matter of time before a male claimed her for his pride, and with the kind and accommodating male that stood before her she was certain she could not find another chance like this one.

    Re: Hunting [Open]

As soon as he saw the female relax enough to approach her meal and continue eating again, Izel settled on his haunches and maintained a watchful eye on the surrounding area. His ears swiveled to make sure he didn’t miss a sound… there were no surprises, and if something unexpected did come along then he would make sure to keep it at bay whilst the other feline finished her meal. She seemed to finish rather quickly though and when he allowed himself to bring his attention back solely to her, a small smile came to his lips when he saw how different she was now… she was far more relaxed, despite her ears still being pressed to her head. His ears pricked attentively toward her when she spoke, answering his question this time about why she was alone and he found that her answer actually saddened him, “That’s… unfortunate. A pride is supposed to be your family… they’re supposed to protect you.” he answered gently, a soft growl at the end of his words as he worried about the fact that she mentioned running.

He watched as she slowly raised herself onto her paws and her lips parted to speak once more, ‘You won’t hurt me, right?’. Her words caught him slightly off guard, but he wanted to reassure her that he wouldn’t do what she feared, “No, Mint… I won’t hurt you.” he said reassuringly, his voice a low purr as he spoke, “It seems there may be others out and about that would try to hurt you… but as long as I’m around, I won’t let them.” he said, feeling a sense of protectiveness over the small female. Perhaps it was because she was about the age his sisters would be, perhaps it was simply the kind of diardi he was and the idea of others hurting this sweet female rather than protecting her like they should sickened him. It was then that something he had not expected happened and the pretty female before him closed the distance between them, and after some careful consideration she actually initiated physical contact by rubbing against his chest and neck. He heard her purr and let his own rumble from deep within his chest as he rubbed his chin against the top of her head in an affectionate way. He let his tongue loll out to gently lick her ear, and felt that in that moment they had made an unspoken bond… he knew without a doubt that she would be with him from now on, until the day came when he chased her away… though he doubted that he ever would, unless it was for her protection of course.
